The Last Airbender (2010)

Director: M. Night Shyamalan
Starring: Noah Ringer, Dev Patel
My rating: XXX
IMDB: 4.3/10

I am not a film critic per se. I don't have a reputation. I don't really know how to write a film review either, so I can safely say that I am going to go against popular opinion. I quite enjoyed this film.  Its horrendous on many levels, but very entertaining.

You cannot get away from the sad fact that the acting in this film is shockingly awful, the story is full of holes but it was a good ride if you can forgive the terrible bits.

The premise of the story goes along the lines that there are four nations in this magical realm that can manipulate different elements. Those who can manipulate are called Benders, rather unfortunately.

It feels like Shyamalan picked much of the plot from the 'Box Of Cliched Storylines' that most directors have stuck under their bed. There are clear instructions on the box that says 'One to be taken every three hours' but ol' Shyamalan might have taken the box and just dumped the whole lot in a blender with some whiskey and a pint of milk and then smeared it all over his face.

On some levels this makes this film quite watchable. On other levels this makes this film a steaming stew of bad writing seasoned, strangely, with fantastic visuals and bad acting. It is a really difficult blend to accept, but it also makes it quite entertaining without having to invest too much mentally.

I can't really find much else to say about this film. It is what it is. Big budget, terrible acting, lovely visuals.
